Recipe: Nourishing Bone Marrow Broth (For When You Need a Reset in a Mug)

You know those days where your body’s a little achy, your patience is thin, and your energy feels like it’s hiding under a weighted blanket? That’s when this bone broth becomes your best friend in a cup.

This isn’t just any broth. It’s rich, warm, full of body-loving minerals, collagen, and anti-inflammatory goodness—and honestly, it feels like a hug for your insides. Whether you’re juggling a busy workday, wrangling toddlers, or just trying to feel good again after a long season of burnout, this recipe has your back.

Why I Love It (and You Might Too)

This slow cooker bone marrow broth is:

  • Deeply nourishing, especially if your nervous system has been stuck on high alert.

  • Gut-loving, thanks to collagen, gelatin, and trace minerals that support digestion and repair.

  • Immune-supportive, with turmeric, ginger, and marrow-rich bones that offer anti-inflammatory benefits.

  • Actually convenient. Pop everything into the slow cooker and forget about it for the day.

You can sip it warm, freeze it in portions, or use it as a base for soups, stews, or congee (a fave in our house when the kids are sniffly).

But Wait, Bone Broth? Isn’t That a Bit... Much?

Not when it’s this easy. I’m not asking you to hover over a stovetop or do a cleanse. I’m giving you a tool—a warm, mineral-rich elixir you can batch on a Sunday while life goes on around you.

And if you’ve ever walked into a butcher and felt unsure what to even ask for… don’t worry, I’ve got you covered in the recipe notes with a quick bone-cut guide (because yes, apparently there’s more than one way to cut a bone 😅).

💛 This Recipe is for You If:

  • You’re tired of feeling wired but tired

  • You’re healing from stress, gut issues, or burnout

  • You love practical wellness you can feel working in your body

  • You want one less thing to think about (and one more thing that supports you)

And hey—if you make it, snap a pic or tag me on Instagram. I love seeing how these little rituals are grounding you in your day.

Nourishing Golenden Bone Marrow Broth | Osso Buco Soup

Slow Cooker | 7L

Rich in collagen, minerals, and anti-inflammatory compounds to support immunity, gut health, and stress.

Ingredients

  • 2 beef marrow bones - ask the butcher to cut them canoe or cross-cut

  • Filtered water (to fill 7L slow cooker)

  • 4 onions, thinly sliced

  • 6 celery stalks, thinly sliced

  • 3-inch ginger, gently bruised

  • 3-inch turmeric, gently bruised

  • 1–2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 2–3 garlic cloves, lightly crushed

  • Salt to taste

Optional:

  • 1 medium or large osso buco piece per person for osso buco soup

  • Cracked pepper (increases turmeric absorption)

  • Chilli flakes to serve

Instructions

  1. On medium heat, brown onions, then the bones and optional osso buco in the slow cooker (if your slow cooker has this option).

  2. Add veggies, ginger, turmeric, apple cider vinegar, and salt.

  3. Fill with filtered water, leaving 2–3 cm space at the top.

  4. Either cook on slow, cool or high for 8–12 hours (not quite simmering) or on low for 12-18 hours.

  5. Skim foam during the first hour if desired.

  6. Serve broth with osso buco meat, quinoa, brown rice noodles or basmati rice.

  7. Cool slightly, and store in air-tight jars.

Tips & Options

  • For daily nourishment & convenience → 8–12 hrs on high works beautifully.

  • For deeper immune/gut support → add knuckle or joint bones and simmer 18–24 hrs on low.

  • Roast bones at 200°C for 30 mins for richer flavor.

  • Sip warm with a pinch of sea salt or use as a base for soups, stews, or cook rice and pasta with it.

  • Freeze in portions for easy access.

Bone Cut Guide

Split longways (a.k.a. “canoe cut”)

  • Bone is split lengthwise to expose the full marrow channel

  • Great for roasting or scooping marrow directly

Cut in rounds (a.k.a. “cross-cut”)

  • Bone is sliced into rounds, about 2–3 cm thick

  • Perfect for broths and soups—marrow melts into the liquid

👉 Ask your butcher:

  • “Marrow bones cut into rounds for broth”

  • Or “Can you split marrow bones lengthwise?”
